  2. RANDOM SAMPLER IS DISTRIBUTED UNDER THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT

  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  10. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  17. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  18. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  20. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  25. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  26. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  27. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  29. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  30. product, you don't pay for it.

  43. Random Sampler is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  44. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  45. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  46. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  47. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  48. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  49. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  50. useful and find that you are using Random Sampler and continue to use
  51. Random Sampler after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  52. istration payment of $30 to Gerald D. Otis at 2632 Wilkshire Dr., 
  53. Medford, OR 97504.  The $30 registration fee will license one copy for
  54. use on any one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software
  55. just like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  56. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  57. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  58. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  59. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  60. same time.

  62. Commercial users of Random Sampler must register and pay for their
  63. copies of Random Sampler within 30 days of first use or their license
  64. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  65. tacting Gerald D. Otis.

  67. Anyone distributing Random Sampler for any kind of remuneration must
  68. first contact Gerald D. Otis at 2632 Wilkshire Dr., Medford, OR 97504
  69. for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to 
  70. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  71. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  72. Random Sampler immediately (However Gerald D. Otis must still be 
  73. advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  74. version of Random Sampler.).
